5022: Wild Crop Harvesting - 101 Training
What does it mean to certify a wild crop as organic? In this training we explore how someone would pursue this certification. This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to support producers in implementing organic wild crop harvesting standards.
Matthew Molyneaux, Technical Specialist with Oregon Tilth, will discuss the intricacies of the organic certification processes for crops harvested from the so-called wild.
This 101 session aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange to support the adoption of organic wild crop harvesting practices. You will gain insights into how organic practices can aid in ecosystem preservation, long-term environmental conservation and promote practice changes, including alternatives to chemical management of unwanted species on managed lands. This is a balance we hope to explore more in the upcoming 201 training this fall, 2024.
By understanding the details of organic certification for wild-harvested crops, you will be better equipped to guide producers in maintaining the integrity of their harvesting practices and the health of the ecosystems they help manage.
This training was supported by the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA) Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a
program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered
by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic
Program (NOP).

Botanical sprays just make them think they are at a spa. Take an empty 2 liter soda bottle, fill it just under half way with apple cider vinegar...the will fill it up with dead bees in about a week.

Never use Pesticides! Learn to live with all Stinging insects. Simply placing an old abandoned Bald Faced Hornets Nest near areas you want to keep free of Yellow Jackets works. Eaves, play areas, picnic tables. Find an old Hornst Nest innthe Winter, be sure its frozen out & all are dead. Be careful with it as paper nests are fragile. Use fishing string to hang it.

Cannabis is still illegal in Idaho-Change this!! Please support federal drug law change so that Cannabis & Hemp become exclusively USA based industries! In that way the USA can become the number one international producer of all Cannabis-Hemp Products internationally!! If the USA takes over Illicit drug production in order to wipe out the South American Billion dollar south of the border cartel drug industry, we can take control of the USA addiction problem by legalizing ALL drugs for use by adults then using the drug sales tax revenue(BILLIONS!) to re-educate ourselves & our children on the truth around what Drugs really are & how Addiction is a LAW Based Issue more than a biological or genetic one. Once we are controlling illicit drug sales through sane community based USA production we can overhaul the ignorance levels The Intermountain west area can become the location to switch off of Western Cascade Timber Harvest and switch on to large scale Hemp Fiber Production-Cultivation & massive scaled up Harvests of Hemp. We need to focus on creation of a Nationally based production model the kind that has its primary design for making the Pacific Northwest the biggest producer of all Hemp & Cannabis Products Internationally

Joe Earp(Early Hoedad Tree Planter) Joe had a big impact on Thiram use in industrial Tree Planting seedlings. Thiram is NO LONGER USED, as far as I know. Tree Planters were getting sick from this chemical that was put onto the Seedlings prior to planting. Hal Hartzels book ‘Birth of a Cooperative’ has some details on this Thiram Battle.

A wire brush on an asphalt shingle roof is pure idiocy. Moss is not a "pest" (e.g. pesticide???)

    • @NCAPVids
      @NCAPVids Рік тому

Thanks for watching, and for your comments. If you use a brush to remove moss, be sure to use it gently so it doesn't harm the roof. You are right that a stiff, non-metal bristle brush is best. Regarding your point about moss not being a pest, at NCAP we often use the broad term "pesticide" to mean any agent (for example: insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide or fungicide) that is designed to kill living organisms. Unfortunately, people often use chemical moss killers on their roofs, which then runs off into storm drains and harms aquatic organisms in waterways.

The air pockets or gaps are too big put mesh over the opening so u get air needed to compost but don’t let them in ur compost. You now need drying agents like shredded paper, coffee grinds, leaves, mulch etc but shred them and make sure not to let the compost dry out which can happen when in direct sun. Good gardening.

I've never used chemicals but my lawn is mostly brown & sparse from lack of watering/proper mowing and there is quite a bit of crab grass. I plan to get back on top of things by using a compost tea containing kelp, molasses, blood & bone meal, homemade compost, mushroom compost, manure compost, mycorrhizae, worm castings, seaweed, fish hydrolysate, & milorganite. Is this too much and is it safe to use in the summer months? Also, how often should I broadcast this on my lawn? (I live in Oklahoma City, if that matters.) Thanks!

Nobody ever addresses turfs such as bermudagrass and then they hear people like this saying to mow at 3" so they do. Bermuda needs to be mowed between 3/4ths and 1 1/2 inches for best results. Some grasses are mowed tall and some are mowed short.
